    The Rio Tinto Alcan (RTA) Yarwun refinery is situated north-west of the central Queensland port city of Gladstone, which is adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef. The Yarwun team is committed to achieving new benchmark performance levels in engineering and construction, community relations, and health, safety and environment. Yarwun is RTA's first wholly owned and operated Alumina Refinery. It is the first alumina refinery to be built in the western world in over twenty years, and is still expanding, with the Yarwun 2 construction project (US$1.8b) underway to double its production capacity.
     
    The Advisor Occupational Hygiene reports to the Specialist Hygiene & Health and is a member of the Hygiene & Health output team which is included in the Health & Safety Department. The Hygiene & Health Output Team aim to ensure there are no adverse health effects to any worker through working at RTA Yarwun. This includes providing a health and medical service and carrying out health and hygiene risk assessment, monitoring, education and rehabilitation injury and illness management support functions.
     
    The primary purpose of this role is to support the site in compliance with the Rio Tinto HSEQ Management System and Occupational Health Performance Standards, and relevant legislation. This encompasses qualitative and quantitative hygiene risk assessment, maintenance and calibration of instrumentation, data management and troubleshooting and providing education and training to improve Yarwun's occupational health and hygiene (OHH) performance. This role also requires the ability to analyse data and draw results to conclude solutions to aid in the reduction of health risks to Yarwun personnel. A key focus for this role will be to ensure that all operations are performed in a safe, efficient manner with a high focus on meeting and exceeding quality targets. Another integral part of the role will be to manage the approval and on-going supervision of Hazardous Substances on site. 
     
    To be successful in this role, you will have several years of practical experience working within Occupational Hygiene and an undergraduate degree in a science or engineering related discipline. Ideally you will hold a post graduate qualification in Occupational Hygiene.You will have a proven ability to identify and assess occupational health hazards through interpretation of data and in the development of operational procedural documentation.
     
    Key skills that will separate top performers in this role are excellent interpersonal and social skills and the ability to work in a busy team environment - ideally you will have previous experience in developing health education topics and in delivering training to diverse groups.
    Experience working within a mining or heavy industrial environment would be advantageous. Excellent computer literacy and interpersonal communication skills (oral/written) are essential.
