Rio Tinto Exploration is one of the mo st successful, stable and well resourced exploration teams globally. With the mandate to grow the value of Rio Tinto by discovering or acquiring resources that can increase future cash-flows, the group seeks to discover at least one world class resource each year. To ensure our ongoing capability, we currently require an experienced Geotechnician to provide support to a dedicated exploration team.
In this position you will facilitate all fieldwork and conduct technical tasks associated with data collection, land access and logistics/field activity support. This role would suit an autonomous team member who is driven by managing a diverse workload.

In this position you will facilitate all fieldwork and conduct technical tasks associated with data collection, land access and logistics/field activity support. This role would suit an autonomous team member who is driven by managing a diverse workload.
Reporting to the Project Geologist, you will take responsibility for a variety of tasks including:
- Permitting and government approvals
- Contractor management, including management of personal and contractor safety performance.
- Engage and build sustainable relationships with external stakeholders (eg. Landholders, Local Government and Traditional Owners).
- Establishing survey grids and conducting or supervising geochemical or geophysical surveys
- Researching land ownership; boundaries; risks and community relations issues that may be material to going onto specific parts of the land
- Training of field staff and geological staff in exploration techniques
- Completing administrative activities related to the exploration projects
- Assisting Geologists with drilling programmes
- Data records management and reporting
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- A minimum 5years experience as a Field / Geotechnical Assistant
- Exposure to the Mining Industry
- Proven capability in time and logistical management
- Extensive experience in relevant legislations (Native Title Act, NT and QLD Mining Acts etc)
- Proven ability to build collaborative relationships
- Energy, drive and enthusiasm to go the extra mile to meet deadlines when required
