A THREE-year-old girl has been bitten on the back and buttocks at Fraser Island in the fifth dingo attack in 12 months.

Tuesday's attack has prompted authorities to warn holidaymakers to be wary of the wild dogs.

Environment Minister Andrew McNamara said the attack highlighted the importance of recently erected electric fences around island townships.

But resident Judy Daniel said it wasn't the townships that needed protecting it was tourists on the beaches who ignored warnings about feeding dingoes. AAP
