Dog Danger Not Just On Fraser

Illawarra Mercury

Tuesday May 8, 2001

ONE does not have to go to Fraser Island to be attacked by a pack of dogs.

Try to go to Wyalla Rd, Jamberoo (to the end section) on a motorbike or pushbike and you are sure to be attacked by at least four black dogs, coming from all sides, snapping and biting you on the legs, as has happened to me more than once.

If I had not worn heavy rubber boots, severe injury would have been the result.

When I reported this to the Kiama Council, nothing happened for two weeks. Only after a few phone calls did a council ranger come to see me to ask why I had to be on this public road anyway. And if I did not want to be attacked by the dogs, I should not go there on a motorbike or pushbike.

So, having paid road tax, motor registration, licence fee and about the highest council rates in the state, I am asked to justify being on a public road!

If this is what they call ``public service" then that Kiama Council has lost the true meaning of the word.
