Fraser Island
Fraser Island is found about 300 kilometres north of Brisbane, off the south coast of Queensland, Australia and was declared a World Heritage site.
Regarded as the largest sand island in the world, Fraser Island only has around 100 residents, but attracts lots of visitors every year. Fraser Island was named after Eliza Fraser who came to the island after she was shipwrecked.
Fraser Island wildlife
You'll see lots of fauna when you're at Fraser Island. Pure dingoes are populous at Fraser Island, and you might also spot dolphins and dugongs in the water.
There's also sugar gliders, swamp wallabies, echidnas and swamp wallabies. Not to mention reptiles - snakes, goannas and frogs - and birds such as sea eagles, honeyeaters and if you're lucky you might spot the endangered ground parrot at Fraser Island.

Places to see while you're at Fraser Island include Lake Boomanjin - the largest perched lake in the world, Lake Wabby, the deepest lake on Fraser Island and the Wungul Sandblow which gives you huge views of the coastline.
Fraser Island also has beautiful rainforests with stunning flora such as the Wide Bay Boronia and Lemon Scented Tea Trees. Fraser Island's main rainforest trees are the Fraser Island Satinay and Brush Box, Hoop Pines and Kauri pines.

When you're at Fraser Island there's lots of bushwalking to do. Lots of the walks leave from Central Station and range from rainforest walks to walks around Fraser Islands many lakes.
You may also like to do 4WDing along Fraser Island's sandy beaches. People find it hard to leave Fraser Island without doing a bit of fishing either.
